Thinking anything to do with my heath is news...REALLY?

This is what started the whole thing -- the whole -- "Things I Never Thought I Would Do When I Got Older" blog idea.

One day last August I called my sister-in-law with the most exciting news! I said, "You won't believe what I just found? I was doing some research on the Internet and I found THE answer!!! It is Adrenal Fatigue! You know all the weird symptoms I have been having?"

I went on to list all of the symptoms that I had, that were on the list; tired, fatigue, muscle pain, joint pain -- well, here, I will just cut and paste from the website.

Signs and Symptoms of Adrenal Fatigue:

Tendency to gain weight and unable to loose it, especially around the waist.
High frequency of getting the flu and other respiratory diseases and these symptoms tend to last longer than usual.
Tendency to tremble when under pressure.
Reduced sex drive.
Lightheaded when rising from a laying down position.
Unable to remember things.
Lack of energy in the mornings and also in the afternoon between 3 to 5 pm.
Feel better suddenly for a brief period after a meal.
Often feel tired between 9 - 10 pm, but resist going to bed.
Need coffee or stimulants to get going in the morning.
Crave for salty, fatty, and high protein food such as meat and cheese.
Increase symptoms of PMS for women; period are heavy and then stop, or almost stopped on the 4th day, only to start flow again on the 5th or 6th day.
Pain in the upper back or neck with no apparent reasons .
Feels better when stress is relieved, such as on a vacation.
Difficulties in getting up in the morning
Lightheaded

Anyway -- I was so excited to finally find an answer for what ailed me -- and then it hit me. I actually called someone on the phone with exciting news that had to do with my health.

I remember hearing old people talking about their health and diagnoses and medications and surgeries and doctors and side-effects as if anyone cared. I remember thinking, "Really? Is this what life becomes? Just talking about our failing mortality?"

I also remember thinking, "I will never do that." And yet. Here I was. Doing just that. I wanted to apologize and hang up and never mention it again.

And then, my sister-in-law said, "Wow. Send me the link. I think I suffer from the very same thing."

So, I sent her the link.

And subsequently found myself enlightening anyone else who would listen about my new found source of incredible information to aid us in the journey of aging, or pursuit of postponing aging, as the case may be. :-)

First Blog Ever

Well, okay. If you count the one blog I put on MySpace a year ago, then this is not my first blog EVER. But as far as the world of blogging with intent goes, this is my first blog ever.

That’s the way I know I am becoming an old fart. We will call this “Awareness # 1″ I am about to turn 45 and I have never blogged with intent until now. Also, I just created a Facebook page within the last few months. I was so surprised to find a lot of my friend on there! WoW! I really am behind the times…

Upon this blog I will type all of the new awarenesses that come to me, and they all start with, “Well, here is something I never thought I would do when I got older!” Please, feel free to comment and add your observations of middle age and aging that I lovingly call, “Old Fart Awarenesses.” Let the blogging begin!
